Important Message from MSAD 71

January 9, 2007

Dear MSAD71 Parents, Staff and Members of the Kennebunk High School Student Body,

On Tuesday afternoon, January 8, high school officials were notified of an alleged threat made toward Kennebunk High School. The police were immediately notified and took action. Through deliberations with them, and due to the fact that the suspect was apprehended and detained, we decided to hold school today. We continue to be in constant communication with our police department to monitor the situation and assure student and staff safety.

We are thankful for the immediate and thoughtful response by our law enforcement agents in assisting us in keeping our school safe. We assure you that the safety of all will remain our top priority.

Below is the press release that our police have provided us.

Sincerely,

Dr. Thomas Farrell

Superintendent of Schools

Press Release

January 9th, 2008

On 01-09-08, Jeffrey Stevens Jr., 19 of 2 Old Kennebunk Road in Lyman, ME was arrested and charged with Terrorizing pursuant to a threat made toward the Kennebunk High School.  Police state the arrest came after a student from the Kennebunk High School contacted school officials stating the threat was conveyed to that student from Stevens.  A Warrant of Arrest was obtained for Stevens early this morning and police from Kennebunk and the York County Sheriffs Department arrested Stevens at his residence without incident.  Stevens was taken to the Kennebunk Police Department where he was booked and subsequently transported to the York County Jail.  Police are working in conjunction with the school administration to ensure all safety measures are in place.  Stevens is scheduled to be arraigned later this afternoon via video arraignment.

Wonderful Enrichment Opportunity

The students at Sea Rd and Consolidated Schools had a wonderful musical enrichment experience this week.  The L.A. and NYC based band, Kneebody, came and performed for the kids at each school.  The kids were all so well behaved and they LOVED the music.  Be sure to ask them about it.

I would like to thank the KCPTA, Sea Rd Allied Arts Team, Kathy Pence and Kevin Crowley for their support and encouragement of these kinds of activities for our students.
