Welcome To Sea Road!!!

We are pleased to welcome everyone to Sea Road School.  We are looking forward to having a great school year.   Please feel free to call or email the office with any suggestions or concerns which you may have.  Thank you for sharing your children with us!

OPEN HOUSE – Sept. 19_th, 2007

Our open house is held in order to provide parents with an overview of the year.   Each teacher will review the curriculum, speak about daily routines, homework, and expectations.  Our staff will also answer any questions you may have.  We look forward to visiting with you.  This is one of the few events at Sea Road which is for parents only.

The fourth grade classes and Mrs. Zerbinopoulos will meet from 6:30-7:15.  The fifth grade classes and Mrs. Kimball will meet from 7:30-8:15.  This is a date change from my opening day letter.  My apologies for any inconvenience.

Band Lessons for Fifth Graders

Fifth grade band lessons will start Monday Sept. 10_th.  These lessons are given before school starts in the morning from 7:45-8:30AM.  The schedule is as follows:

Monday- Flutes                                    Tuesday – Clarinets

Wednesday – Saxophones                  Thursday- Brass

Friday - Percussion

Fourth grade band lessons will start right after the initial assembly introducing the instruments in a couple of weeks.  If you have any questions please call Mr. Saunders at 985-1105.

Early Release Day – Wednesday, Sept. 12th

On Wednesday, Sept. 12_th, school will dismiss at noontime.  As you may recall, the MSAD 71 School District designates the second Wednesday of each month as an early release day for students. This allows us to provide professional development opportunities for our staff.  During the September release day our staff will be reviewing the results of the standardized testing which took place at the end of last year.  These tests include both the NWEA and MEA’s.

 

 Dates to remember:

Sept. 12_th   Early Release – 12 noon dismissal

Sept. 19_th   Open house-

                            6:30-7:15 for fourth grade and Mrs. Zerbinopoulos

PICTURE DAY
ON Wednesday, Sept. 19th, the photographers from Kavanaugh Studios will be here to take individual and class photos of your children.  The photo will be taken in the morning. Please watch for the flyer!

PTA Meeting
On Thursday, Sept. 20th the PTA will hold their first meeting of the year.  The meeting will be held at KES in the Library.  The meeting starts at 6:30 and is over by 8PM.   There is baby sitting provided.

PTA ICE CREAM SOCIAL
On Thursday, Sept. 27th the PTA will host the annual Ice Cream Social.  The social will be held at KES in the cafeteria from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.  This is a terrific way to meet new families!  Please consider joining us!

Lunch Notes
Please know that as parents you have control over which lunch items your child may purchase.  If you would like to restrict the purchase of chips or ice cream please call 985-1105 and ask for Ginny.  You may also send a note through your classroom teacher.  Thank you!

BRICK STORE MUSEUM
The Brick Store Museum is hosting a great event for kids and families in September!~ On September 15th, see REAL Wild Things at the Museum – live Maine raptors, reptiles, & mammals from The Center for Wildlife will be on hand as a tie-in with our ongoing Wild Things folk art exhibition.  For more information about these and other Museum programs, visit  http://www.brickstoremuseum.org

We know this is Early But……Mark your calendars!
Sea Road Holiday Fair is Thursday November 29th!  Much more info to follow!

We are starting up a parent child book group here at Sea Road School.  We hope you will join us for lively book discussions, light refreshments and an opportunity to meet other parents and children who love books as much as you do.  Book groups are a great way to foster independent thinking and opinion-making and also give children the opportunity to share their ideas about what they read with their parents.   Our meetings will take place right after school in the library for about 45 minutes.   We will provide the copies of the book.  Copies of the books will  be available in the office.  We are planning to meet every 6-8 weeks throughout the school year.  A listing of upcoming books and meeting dates will follow soon.

Whittington, a feline descendent of Dick Whittington’s famous cat of English folklore, appears at a rundown barnyard plagued by rats and restores harmony while telling his ancestor’s story.  Readers who enjoyed E.B. White’s classic tale, Charlotte’s Web will especially treasure this story-within-a-story.
