Welcome

Welcome to the Sea Road School Library blog!

Check back for library announcements and new books added to the library collection.

With the start of 2007, we are initiating a new method of communication that you will hopefully find useful.  The intent is to provide you with timely information through  postings that may include special announcements, a weblink that you may find interesting, notable book awards, information on library activities...

You may view this weblog from the "District Blog" link on the MSAD 71 home page or you may subscribe and have the  updates delivered directly to you by entering your email address and clicking on the "subscribe me!" button.

Read Across America Day Celebration

rea%20graphic.jpg

At Sea Road School, we are going to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday on March 2nd in a very special way.  This is an invitation for students and staff of Sea Road School.  For each book you read between February 5th and March 2nd please get a red ticket from your teacher or from Mrs. Thompson in the library.  The book can be fiction or nonfiction.  On the back of the ticket, fill out your full name, the title of the book you read, and your teacher's name.  Put the completed ticket in the container in your homeroom.  On March 2nd we will count up each homeroom's tickets to see just how many books the students and staff of SRS have read!  Please fill out one ticket for each book you read to keep the count accurate.  If you have any questions, see Mrs. Thompson. We will announce the total number of books read on Read Across America Day on March 2nd.

Happy Reading!

ANNOUNCING NEW PARENT/CHILD BOOK GROUP AT SRS LIBRARY

We are starting up a parent child book group here at Sea Road School. We hope you will join us for lively book discussions, light refreshments and an opportunity to meet other parents and children who love books as much as you do. Book groups are a great way to foster independent thinking and opinion-making and also give children the opportunity to share their ideas about what they read with their parents.

Our meetings will take place right after school in the library for about 45 minutes. We will provide the copies of the book. If you are interested in joining us, be sure and pick up your copies of our first book at the OPEN HOUSE this week. Copies of the books will also be available in the office if you are unable to attend Open House. We are planning to meet every 6 weeks throughout the school year. A listing of upcoming books and meeting dates will follow soon.

FIRST MEETING DATE: October 16th, Sea Road Library - 3:00 to 3:45

OUR FIRST BOOK: Whittington by Alan Armstrong

Whittington, a feline descendent of Dick Whittington’s famous cat of English folklore, appears at a rundown barnyard plagued by rats and restores harmony while telling his ancestor’s story. Readers who enjoyed E.B. White’s classic tale, Charlotte’s Web will especially treasure this story-within-a-story.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please email or call Terri Bauld at 985-1105 or tbauld @msad71.net.

HAPPY READING and see you October 16th.
