Beginning the week of March 11th, all second and third grade students at K.E.S. will have the opportunity to roller skate during their physical education classes. This program was made possible through a grant from the Maine Community Foundation. Through their generosity, we were able to purchase over sixty pair of roller skates, helmets, and sets of wrist guards, elbow and knee pads.
All students are required to wear helmets, knee and elbow pads and wrist guards. These can be brought from home or borrowed from school. If a student is borrowing a helmet it will be required that they wear a baseball cap or bandana underneath. Roller skates can also be brought from home but roller blades are not permitted.
Parent volunteers are needed to make this program a success. Duties will include lacing skates, assisting students with less experience, and spraying down and putting equipment away at the end of class. If parents would like to skate, there are plenty of adult sizes available. Younger siblings (pre-school) are also welcomed to attend. This program will run for approximately four weeks.
A notice about a third grade field trip to Happy Wheels in Portland on April 17th will be send home later in the program.
