note from Mrs. Campbell #5

Hi Everyone,

Social Studies:  The Navtive American projects are underway.  The children have been busy gathering information about the tribe they have chosen.  More class time, as well as library and computer lab time, will be offered for this project next week.  I would like the students to have 2 paragraphs written by Friday.

Scholastic News:  No SN next week.

Spelling:  Unit 5.  The children have the list of words.  Pages 24-26 will be assigned for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  The students should take some time to study the bonus words:  secretary, treasurer, senate, cashier, summon, vanish.  They can be found on page 156 of the spelling text.

Conferences:  Waiting until December is a long time to wait for conferences, so I would like to get started soon.  I am available before and after school.  An evening or late afternoon time can be set aside once I know what you would prefer.

Tuesday after school help:  I am available for homework help on most Tuesdays until 4:00.  We usually devote some of the time for math review.  FYI:  I will not be able to stay on October 14, as I have a meeting at the middle school.

Have a nice weekend,

Connie Campbell

Note from Mrs. Campbell #2

Hi Everyone,

We are gradually getting into the swing of things.  My class is a great group of children, and I predict they will accomplish a lot this year.

Homework Help:  I will be available on Tuesdays until 4:00 for assistance with homework.  All students in my class are welcome to stay.

Spelling:  This year we will be using a spelling text to augment the word study program.  Assignments will be given on Monday, Tuesday. and Wednesday.  On Thursday, a pretest will be given.  Friday will be test day (20 words plus 6 bonus words).  If students get 100 on Thursday, they only need to take the bonus portion of the test on Friday.  We are working on Unit 1 this week.

Scholastic News (SN):  Answers to the questions for the September 1 issue are due Friday.  Students need to read the whole magazine, as there will be a multiple choice quiz on Friday.

Reading:  As a class, we are reading Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH.  The children will be given the year's schedule for book reports today.  Ask what book your child has chosen for his/her book report.

What is the Campbell Card?  Ask your child!

Homework:  As a 5th grade student, your child should plan to have about an hour of homework each night.  Talk with your child to find a location and time to complete their studies.  If homework is not completed on time, we provide a supervised place during recess, called Directed Study, for work completion.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me via email (ccampbell@msad71.net) or phone (985-1105).

Sincerely,

Connie Campbell

note from Mrs. Campbell

Dear Parents,

I hope it has been a great summer for you.  I am looking forward to the new school year.

For the parents of my students last year:  You may want to unsubscribe to this blog and subscribe to the blogs of your child's new teachers.  Last school year was an enjoyable year.  I wish my former students the best of luck as they enter 6th grade.  If I can be of any help this year, please do not hesitate to ask.

For the parents of my new students: I will be using this blog as one way of communication.  A letter has been sent to your child and I included a shopping list for school supplies.  On Monday, August 18 from 9:00-11:00 your child is invited to come in and help with decorating the classroom.

After school gets started, I will be choosing a day for after school help with homework.  It will be early in the week, and I will be availabe until 4:00.  I like to divide the time working on math skills for the first 20-30 minutes and then the remainder of the time for homework.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.
