March

I look forward to our conferences this week. If you can not make your conference for any reason please call or email me and we can try to reschedule it.

Your child is reading a historical fiction book in class.  They are each going to be responsible to completing a book report for 2 out of the 3 historical fiction books they are reading.  There book reports will be due on Friday March 21st and Friday April 4th.  I will be sending home a list of possible projects for them to do.

Everyone has done a wonderful job taking MEA tests last week!  We completed 3 reading and 3 math tests.  This week we will complete 2 science tests on Tuesday and 1 science test on Wednesday.  Thank you all for bringing in such wonderful snacks to share during testing.

March 25th

It is Beach Day on Friday, March 28th.  Your children can come to school with towels to read on and eat lunch on.  It is a fun day.

The "Watery Earth" is our new science unit focusing on the water cycle and a global view of the importance and conservation of our earth's water supply. I appreciate your help and support with any of the science homelinks that accompany this unit.

We have started to learn about poetry.  The students are learning about several different types of poetry (  Free verse, haiku, couplets and acrostic just to name a few) and will be asked to write some of there own.  We are going to begin to learn about the life of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and reading his poems.

The Board of School Directors

The Board of School Directors invites all Kennebunk and Kennebunkport taxpayers  to participate in a confidential summit on Wednesday, April 9.  Members of the Board will be available for conversation and questions from 7 to 9 PM at Kennebunk High School.  Please plan to meet in Room 5, enter through the Superintendent's office door, at 7 PM  for a brief overview of the process.

The purpose of these summits is to provide another means of communication between the Board and the various interest groups in the District.  In the past, the Board has held three Teacher Summits, one each at the Elementary, Middle, and High School levels; a support staff summit; parents summit; graduated student summit; and high school student summit.  The findings were reported to the full Board and also to the Superintendent so that he could follow up on items that warranted further study.

This year the Board will be meeting with taxpayers on April 9, and with the graduated students in mid-June, in their continuing effort to hear from all stakeholders in the District.

The format will be three short questions from the Board about the District, followed by an open session for any questions or discussion you might wish to
pursue.  All information will be kept confidential, with no names or identifying facts provided.  The Board will prepare two reports, one for the public and another for the Superintendent, both maintaining confidentiality.  The reports will be presented a future Board meeting.

Please feel free to contact any Board member or the Superintendent's Administrative Assistant (985-1100 or dgillette@msad71.net) if you have questions about the meeting or the process.  Thank you in advance for your participation!
