It's That Time Again!!

Yes, summer is coming to an end. Cry  Teachers are all back in school today getting ready for our first day of school on September 2.  I hope you all got my letters in the mail.  I had a wonderful summer and feel rested and ready to go!!

Our specials schedule changes this year and I noticed that we have PE on Tuesday, the first day of school.  So make sure you bring some sneakers to go with those beautiful first day outfits!!

I will be outside on the first day anxious to hear about your summers. I can't wait to see you all.  Enjoy the last 5 days!!

A Couple Last Things

Thank you to all those who sent in toppings for our ice cream sundaes.  We will enjoy them for snack tomorrow.  No need to send another snack in for your child.

Report cards will be going home tomorrow.  I will also be sending home a "My Fifth Grade Summer Packet".  It has a reading record for students to keep track of the books they read this summer.  It also has some math boxes for them to review what we did in math this year.   I included some math games that you can play with them to keep up their facts.  It is really important that they are quick with their facts for 5th grade.  I would love for all of them to do this packet this summer, although it is not mandatory.  I will have prizes for those who hand in their packets on the first day of school next year.

On a final note, I will be tutoring this summer in case you know of someone who is looking for one.

Enjoy your summer and I will see you in September!

Thank You for a Great Year!

I wanted to thank you all for a great year.  You and your children are absolutely wonderful, and I feel very lucky to get this group for 2 years!!

I wanted to have an ice cream sundae party on the last day of school.  I will provide the ice cream.  I am looking for some people to send in the toppings such as hot fudge, caramal, m & m, sprinkles, whipped cream, etc.  Just email me what you would like to bring in.

We have a 1/2 day tomorrow and step-up day on Friday.  They are all going to get a great 5th grade teacher Wink.

Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday we will be having a "Colors Week" in our room.  The class will be split up into 4 color groups.  They may have to dress different ways on those days.  We will be doing different activities that the kids will compete in including musical chairs, a spelling bee, a drawing contest, kickball, a hula hoop contest, and many more.  Each day they will come in and see how many points their group has received.  The kids always love this!  It is a great way to end the year!!

If I don't see you before we go on summer vacation, enjoy!

Next week

It was great seeing all the students' grandparents last week.  We had a great day!

Here are some things to remember for next week:

Monday, June 2 - Mr. Viehman (our former guidance counselor) will be coming in to do a presentation on whales.

Friday, June 6 - Dr. Nanay will be coming in to present a slide show on the United States.

The students book projects are due tomorrow.

We have now finished up our math program, science units and word program.  Our focus for the end of the year will be getting through the rest of the United States, reading skills, writing, and math problem solving.

I want to thank our regular parent volunteers, Mrs. Connors, Mrs. Borden, Mrs. Whalen, and Mrs. Desmarais for coming in to help in the classroom.  Although volunteering is done this week, I would like each of you to pop in sometime next week so that we can give you a big thank you.  Any time between 8:30 and 11:30 would be best.

Enjoy the beautiful weather!!!

End to a Busy Week!

Thanks to everyone who brought in items for our Longfellow Tea today.  The kids were so excited and enjoyed seeing their parents and grandparents in the audience!  They were very proud of themselves, and so was I.

Next week will be another busy week.  The students will be taking the NWEA testing on the computers on Monday and Wednesday.  They will be tested in reading and math.  We will compare their scores to their fall scores to see their growth.  You will get their scores as well.

We will be going to Heartwood College of Art on Friday afternoon.  You should have seen a permission slip come home for that.  It is a great trip put on by the allied arts team.  They will learn about a particular art form one day and the following week they will go back and be able to try it out on their own.  It is a fabulous experience!!  I learned a lot about photography last year!

Because of the change in our schedules, I will not need volunteers on Wednesday or Thursday.

Remember also that Wednesday is a half day.

We will need some 2 liter soda bottles next week for science so if you could send one in that would be great!

We will be starting new books for reading on Monday.  They will all be animal books, either The Cricket in Times Square, There's an Owl in the Shower, or Sounder.  They will also be answering comprehension questions.

Have a great weekend and thanks once again for a wonderful day today!

May is Here!

Next week is Henry Wadsworth Longfellow week!!  You should have seen a permission slip go home yesterday about the field trip to Longfellow's house in Portland.  In case you didn't, it is on Tuesday, May 6.  Please get those permission slips in to me as soon as possible.  Also, you will be getting an invitation from your child this week to come to our "Longfellow Tea".  It is on May 9th at 9:30.  It usually lasts about an hour.  We will be reciting Longfellow poetry, showing artwork, and reading some of our own poems to you.  We then will be having refreshments after the presentation.  That's, of course, where I need your help. I need parents to send in tea cookies, pastries and our "tea", which will be juice.  Laughing  If you would like to send something in please let me know.  I would also like to know how many people will be coming so please R.S.V.P. me.

Next week will also be our Scholastic Book Fair at SRS in the library.  It is open Thursday evening if you can't make it during the day. If you are coming to the tea, it will be open then as well.  The students will all be going during library time, so I'm sure they will be asking for some money!!

I would like to welcome Stephanie Ramos back.  She has been gone for a few months and we are so happy that she is back in our class!!

I hope to see you all next week at our tea!

Happy Vacation!

I wanted to wish everyone a relaxful vacation.  Hopefully you are able to have some time off as well.  The kids were great this week.  They have been working hard on their Longfellow Tea presentation.  The Tea will be at 9:30 on May 9th.  You will be getting invitations from the kids soon for that.

The week we get back the students have their analogy quiz on the last set of word master words.  They also have their folder book project due.  Both are on April 30th.

We are in need of a couple more boxes of tissues to get us through the year.  We are using our last box now.  We also could use a few auction items if you see anything good.

I am off to Virginia this week.  Hopefully it will be really sunny and WARM!!  Have a great vacation!
