Newsletter 12/6

What a quick week! The snow is here and the kids are bundled up!!  They need to wear a hat/hood, gloves/mittens, and a winter coat to go outside.  If they want to go in the snow they must have on boots and snowpants.

We did a fun experiment with different kinds of matter in balloons today.  The kids are discovering the properties of solids, liquids and gases.  Ask them about the experiment!

In social studies we are still learning about Maine and will be going to the Maine State Museum on Thursday, December 13th.  So, if you have not gotten in your child's permission slip, please do that soon.  We will be finishing up our story Lost on a Mountain in Maine next week.  It is quite an adventure!

A reminder that tomorrow there is no school and next week is a 1/2 day.

I'm still looking for mystery readers.  Let me know if you or a relative are interested.

Our school is collecting items for the Animal Welfare Society.  Check out the Tel-u-gram for the items they are looking for.

Have a nice long weekend and stay warm!!

Augusta Trip

We had a great time in Augusta on Thursday.  Thank you to Mr. Connor, Mr. Leskowsky, Mrs. Whalen, Mrs. Borden, and Mrs. Condon for chaperoning.  We discovered all about Maine's lumbering, shipbuilding, quarrying, ice harvesting, agriculture, fishing, natural history, history of Maine, and things made in Maine.  Did you know Chester Greenwood from Maine invented the earmuffs?  It was a long ride, but worth it.

We finished our exciting book Lost on a Mountain in Maine.  They will be picking an author to study after be get back from our  break, as well as, a topic from Maine to do a research report on.

On Friday, December 21st we will be having a small party at the end of the day in honor of winter arriving!!  If you would like to send in a drink or food item, just let me know. We will also have our December auction and dodgeball at the end of the day.

Thank you to Mrs. Mooney (title one teacher) and Mrs. Bauld (our librarian) for being our mystery readers the past two weeks.  I am still looking for readers for January.

Next week we will be finishing up our 5th unit in math and working on contractions for word study.

Have a great weekend and stay warm!
